Viaggiando in Riviera:disegni e racconti di frontiera

Voyage sur la Riviera: dessins et contes de frontière

http://www.alzanieditore.com/libri/viaggiando-riviera-disegni-e-racconti-frontiera

It's a book: 21 drawings and 21 stories.
Seven shorts stories are the voice of the female lead, seven of the male lead and seven are narred by an external voice that describes the story of the two young people together.
21 tales you can read like chapters of a single composition, or as 21 stories in their own right.
This is the structure of the book set in that wonderful border area between France and Italy, in a kaleidoscope of lights, colors, smells and flavors.
The book is in Italian and French.

Fort in Ventimiglia

Already by early afternoon he had gone to the beach to put the boat in the water, although it was not sure that she intendt to came to the date.
Instead he saw her smiling arrive punctually.
They were supposed to meet at the Margunaira beach, where in the summer he was holding his fisching boat. Going out in the boat they could see the imposing building overlooking the sea........

Ventimiglia

Here's the cathedral!
Well this stepped "carruggio" covering it on foot from the village, a little effort makes it feel, therefore into is worth it. I think of how many generations they have already seen and visited nearly a thousand years of history. It stood on a previous religious building from the Lombard, built on the ruins of a pagan temple.........................

Vallecrosia

The rain had stopped. It had just stopped. The sky had opened to France and you already saw the sun.
I thought about what I could do. Going to the beach I did not really want and shops was not really the case. I decided to take the bicycle and go up the valley. I wanted to get up to Perinaldo, the native home of the astronomer Gian Domenico Cassini. It was many years that I spent the holidays..................

Hanbury gardens

It was a bit' that he expected her. They had gathered in front of the Municipial Theater of Ventimiglia, In the city it was market day and as usual there were many French citizens who crowded bars, restaurants and shops of downtown. The young man walked nervously up and down, along the sidewalk adjacent to the staircase. he had passed from the bakery to pick up two pieces of "sardenaira" and two flat bread the he had placed in his backpack................

Bordighera

The Roman road is just beautiful. I knew that this was the route of the Via Julia Augusta consular and that, in the middle of XIX century, the first English tourists they fell in love, as well as of the whole Riviera. They built large villas and hotels that with their parks, are still present. Just as they are still present construction of Anglican Church, of the Lutheran Church, the Public Library with one of largest collections in Italy of books in English language, and the one founded by Clarence Bicknell, a huge fund of historical and archeology texts..............................................

San Michele

The building of the former Church of San Francesco has always influenced me. How strange, you feel the music inside.
I remenber that at the square Funtanin, there is a small restaurant where you eat fish dishes of the Ligurian traditions, I turn around, and I see that it's still there. Very well. I would definitely go back to eat, I  just have to wait for the right opportunity or the rigth friends, rather do the right girlfriend...............

Balzi Rossi

Dawn, the day was promising. Sun, calm sea, ideal to spend a day at the beach, with a good book and the possibility from time to time of a bath, to cool off.
Even on vacation was going me to get up early. I had no commitments or precise programs. I had thought to look for a beach less traveled towards the border.
Emmanuelle had called me and when she knows my intentions, she decided to join me..............................

Market Square in Menton

It's really true that Menton is the pearl of French Rivera.
Just exceeds the last tunnel on the Italian coast road,
you see the Balzi Rossi on the sea side, in front of you the border and, just beyond, floodd with sunlight, Menton.
It is considered a French city but of Italian culture. Actually, it is French for a century and a half. It's never been Italian, if anything, Savoy and in any case only for twelve years.....................................

Martin's Cape

Just before the end of the years, Fiore, was back on the Riviera.
In the north, where she worked, the autumn had been cold and without light. Her work were hectic pace. Home, office, supermarket. Sometimes a movie at the cinema, rarely dinners with friends.
In the evening the tiredness was felt and in her "little nest", as she liked to call her apartment, after the warm bath, she was preparing a light dinner and she ate by candlelight, which, never lacked in her home. Always she drank only one glass of Italian red wine...................................................

Montecarlo

I proposed to Emmannuelle to go to get a coffee somewhere together. She instead had invited me to go to drink it in her studio in Menton, happy with my return to Riviera, so there I could see her latest works. A couple of years she only dealt with abstract painting.
For me it was very interesting to go back to that beautiful town and really I stood speechless in front of her new work, a huge colorful canvas........................................................

Seborga

What a pity that the holidays of Fiore have ended. An hour and a half flight and she is already in the grip of frost, while here there is this beautiful warmth. I was pleased to hear her yersterday on the telephone, she promised me that when she will be back she will come with me in the ancient principality of Seborga. Today I am invited to lunch by my literature teacher of high school. He is retired. Now he lives above the village of Seborga, right on the slopes of Mount Caggio................................

Menton

The spring was warm, the mimosas and brooms on the coast were already by flowering time, now it was time for the peach trees and soon the air would filled with the scent of pittosporum flowers.
About flowers, she had not planned to come and spend the festivities on the Riviera. Her lecturer friend had insisted so much, he had also spent a fortune on international calls, but Fiore did not have the opportunity to take days off work; then suddenly she had changed her mind..........................

Dolceacqua

Emmanuelle and her cousin Cécile had arrived by train from Menton and they stood outside the main gate of the villa where I was guest, they were waiting for me.
The owner of the beautiful house had been so kind to lend us bikes, because we wanted to take a ride up to Dolceacqua.
From the promenade of Ventimiglia we decided to stop at the mouth of the river Nervia. We admired the beautiful wildlife oasis of coots, ducks, herons and many other water birds and just before leaving, we have seen gliding on the water an entire family of eyelashes.........................................

Vallecrosia levels

To think that this coastal town just a hundred years ago it did not exist.
It was the railway and the development of floriculture "to colonize" this flat stretch of coast. The most people passing on the road coast, even they realize to cross another common during steady state from Bordighera to Ventimiglia. A kilometer of road between the buildings, shops but nothing special striking.
I've spent my childhood between oratory and schools, just here and even now, in the summer, I come here often on the beach.................................................

Saint Ampelio's Cape

The Ligurian summer warm but not sultry, like every year was back. The cicadas and the sour smell of the large pine grove of the Queen's Gardens made themselves felt. Fiore, just reaching the Riviera made an appointment with his friend right on the small flat space of the cannons inside the gardens.
The lecturer was surprised of her early arrival.
They embraced each other and he kissed her, it was the first time he did it. Fiore smiled, she was pale...........................................

Saint Agnèse

Giulio had told me that it was the most highest coastal village in Europe. in fact when I saw it seemed just a balcony over the bay of Menton. I' d wanted to walk from the train station, but it would be almost three hours of trail up to 800 meters of attitude, a bit' too much under the July sun.
I took advantage of the bus service from Gare Routière brought from up there, on that white rock outcrop ...................................................................................................

Roquebrune

What a nice home of my friend Sabine, an apartment in a old building just below the castle of Roquebrune village. She is a decorator by profession and it shows: such good taste in minimalist style that enhances even more the building.
"Giulio do you know that since 1887 the French have stopped calling the entire coastline La Riviera, it was too Italianate and they coined the word Côte d'Azur?" ................................................

Always in Ventimiglia

They had agreed to meet them in the early afternoon on the beach Nervia, near the oasis of wildlife. Fiore had spent the morning between the Margunaira's beach and the center city. She had poked around here and there, she had had a snack and she was lying on the beach with a book. She literaly devoured books, a bit' of all kinds and that summer she seemed to be crazy for the elegant humor .....................

Apricale

Every summer when I was on the Riviera, I never lost the opportunity to visit one of my favorite towns in the hinterland. Apricale is perhaps, from the architectural point of view one of the most beautiful villages. It had always given the impression of a hen restingon a steep hill near the top, a beautiful square on several levels, on the top the castle, then down, the church, the St. Bartolomeo oratory, the town hall.............

Porta Canarda

From Forte Annunziata to rise at Porta Canarda there isn't a long way, although it is a bit'steep. My architect friend is no longer very young, so it's now the dean in the area among his colleagues. But he has an indomitable spirit, as an old lion and he has decided that he want to pass on his great artistic and cultural knowledge of west ligurian territory..............

Notre Dame des Fontaines

Giulio had gone to church to take his priest friend, that affectionately he called Monsignor. He had known him for some time because schoolmate from the Salesian Fathers of Vallecrosia. The theological studies of Saverio and the social historians.............
