Il Passo della Morte.

On July 8, 2017 I met Enzo Barnabà, a writer living in Grimaldi (Ventimiglia). He pointed to me a path between woods and mountains that many migrants, especially africans, travel to reach France and from there maybe go to the countries of northern Europe.
I went through the barbed wire net  I came to France. During this journey I photographed objects, signs, letters and letters written by those who passed by.
Back home I picked up the material and from this I made nine oil canvases every 30 x 40 cm.

jeans e maglietta imprigionati tra i rami

jeans and shirt imprisoned among the branches

ammasso disordinato di vestiti nel bosco

disorderly clutter of clothes in the woods

Enzo ha trovato un importante foglietto

Enzo found an important slip of paper

pausa dentro un casolare attorno a vestiti e scarpe di alcuni giovani ragazzi africani

pauses inside a cottage around clothes and shoes of some young african boys

ragazzi berlinesi?

berlin guys?

segno lasciato da un artista

sign left by an artist

foglietto al di là della rete di filo spinato

Leaf beyond the barbed wire mesch

sui muri di case Gina

On the walls of Gina’s homes

senza titolo

Without title

After performing these canvases, I asked Enzo if he wanted to write something about this road he knew so well. He asked me if I could run three more canvases; these are not „things“ I met up there, but all this will allow him to tell us things happened in the recent past.

scimmie (50 x 70 cm)
monkeys

les avions renifleurs (50 x 70 cm)
the reconnaissance aircraft

anno 1939 (50 x 70 cm)
Year 1939

And this is the canvas that I've decided to do after Enzo has written the introduction:

Biamonti e la frontiera (100x70 cm)

Biamonti and the Border

Lo scrittore Enzo Barnabà (70x 50 cm)
The writer Enzo Barnbà
